Don’t hound my son Arjun, Sachin Tendulkar tells media
Arjun Tendulkar slammed the first century of his blooming career in the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Under-14 selection trials in May last year. However, his lack of form this year in the selection trials and other tournaments cost him a place in the Under-14 probables list in July.
Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has said that the media should allow his son Arjun, to live the normal life of a teenager and not put him under pressure due to performances on the field.
Speaking to reporters at a function held at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai, Tendulkar stated that he did not want the expectations to pile up on his son because of a famous last name.
“My son has played his first club match. I didn’t have pressure from anyone to ask about following my father’s footsteps. Humble request to allow him to live life like a normal 14-year-old so he can fall in love with the sport.”
Arjun played his first match in the Kanga league representing Young Parsee Cricket Club earlier on Sunday. His debut was not one to remember as he lasted just 12 balls at the crease.
Tendulkar was being feted by the Sports Journalists’ Association of Mumbai on Sunday for his remarkable feat of notching up 100 international centuries. The batting maestro was candid about questions regarding his own career which has spanned almost 24 years.
“There have been criticism and fiction sometimes. But those are few and far between. As a package no complaints.”
